Target Acquired: Axiom Verge

2D game fans have been waiting a long time for Axiom Verge... Developer Tom Happ originally started development on the game as a solo project in 2010. And if you're a PS4 owner, then you're in luck, because the game is now available! But if you're gaming on PC or Vita, then you still have a while to wait, as the game isn't slated to hit those platforms until the end of 2015.

This game wears its Metroid influences on its sleeve with a large world to explore, lots of interesting weapons, plenty of backtracking, and no small number of complex boss encounters... plus a focus on glitches.

Get it now on the PlayStation Store, or check out the game's official site for more info.

20 GOTO 10

Welcome, one and all, to the very first post on 2D RADAR! Is anyone wondering what in the heck we're doing here?

This is a sister site to 8 Bit Horse, a website dedicated exclusively to 2D video games. For many years, 8 Bit Horse has been providing detailed coverage of 2D video games for computers, consoles, and dedicated gaming handhelds.

The site also had a feature called 2D RADAR, showcasing a list of promising 2D games under development. While this was the site's most popular feature, 8 Bit Horse is more focused on long-format articles than traditional short-form blog posts. As such, it was difficult to keep up with new content, changes to release dates, and other things that might be pertinent to a player who wants to keep a certain game on his or her watch list... or discover something completely new.

And thus 2DRADAR.com was created! We still have a Master List of every promising 2D game we've discovered, but this site also gives us an avenue to share more frequent updates and keep players better informed about new 2D games on the horizon. We hope you enjoy, and we appreciate any feedback you may have to help make the experience better for everyone.
