Rubi: The Wayward Mira, from Wayward Games, is a metroidvania set in a colorful world where science and magic intermingle. The planet of Casimir was once filled with abundant mana, but the Mira people have drained this mana to power their civilization, slowly killing the planet in the process. You take on the role of Rubi, a member of the Mira people who finds herself stranded on Earth. Only by opening a portal back to her home world can she save herself and her people. Her mission involves restarting the CERN Large Hadron Collider, and her actions can lead to multiple possible endings. Rubi combats enemies with a melee weapon and a beam weapon that can be upgraded to higher power levels. She can also make use of a phase ability that allows her to extend the distance of her jumps and pass through some solid objects. A gravity weapon allows her to target an area and fling herself in that direction, expanding her ability to explore the environment. She fights her way through fantasy and technological environments as she faces off against strange creatures, security systems, transformed humans, and bosses.
The game is coming to PC and Switch in 2021. A demo is available on Itch.
